Nelson Teich leaves Ministry of Health in Brazil with less than a month in office

Health Minister Nelson Teich called for exoneration this Friday morning (15). The departure was announced in a note by the folder and more details will be given at a press conference, scheduled for Friday afternoon. The way out is the second change in the portfolio amid the crisis experienced due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus.

 The Minister of Health, Nelson Teich, left office on Friday (15), before completing a month at the head of the portfolio. In a statement, the ministry said he resigned.

Assim como Mandetta, Teich também apresentou discordâncias com o presidente Jair Bolsonaro sobre as medidas para combate ao coronavírus.

This week, Bolsonaro said in an interview on leaving the official residence of the Palácio do Alvorada that his ministers should be “in tune with him”. The president referred to a post by Teich on social networks, in which the then minister warned of the risks of chloroquine in the treatment of covid-19.

“Look, all the ministers, I already know what the question is, they have to be in tune with me. All the ministers are my political nominations and when I talk to the ministers I want efficiency at the tip. In this case, it is not like or dislike Minister Teich, it is what is happening, ”said Bolsonaro at the time.

 “An important warning: chloroquine is a medication with side effects. So, any prescription must be made based on medical evaluation. The patient must understand the risks and sign the ‘Consent Form’ before starting to use chloroquine. ”
